In running an online tutoring business, chances are high that you will have to teach a variety of students from different time zones. I for one work with six time zones and things especially get mixed up and crazy when somebody wants to reschedule a class.

Generally, a VA who is good for your business would be someone who can effectively write and speak English so you can entrust him/her with your emails and even client phone calls.

 

If he/she will be communicating with your clients, good customer skills are extremely important. I prefer hiring VAs from the Philippines because many of them are good English communicators, educationally competent, and their rates are also affordable.

 

How to Work with a VA

 

Make sure that you have enough work for the VA to do right from the start because they would prefer employees who will hire them for full-time and long-term work. You are not required, but you might also want to consider providing vacation and sick leaves or giving bonuses for good performance.

 

You also would want to give clear, precise instructions on what you want your VA to do. VAs are usually very smart, but you still need to provide consistent guidance so that your VA knows what is expected of them. Failure to do so will frustrate not only your VA but you as well!

    • I was so busy that I didn’t have enough time to spend with my family. I knew that something needed to change and then I began reading the book Virtual Freedom. It really hit me how I had turned into a superman in my business. Something had to change because I just couldn’t do it all effectively and continue to grow my business. I could have maintained it, but I felt that I was being called to grow it bigger.

  1. Hiring a VA sounds like a great idea at some point. I am still doing everything myself, and it can be a bit overwhelming at times. Still, one requires a fair amount of online business to make this a worthwhile venture – even at the relatively cheap rates. It might be something for the future.

    • I agree with you 100%. It is something to think about. In the beginning, it is important to know how to do each of the activities before you hand it off to someone else because you will need to train them.
